Cat Show news item - September 2020

The Gulf Coast Feline Foundation is excited to announce it will hold its regular “Fall, Felines, and FUN” Cat Show this September! The event will be held on September 26th & 27th at the Jimmy Burke Activity Center in Deer Park, Texas.

As GCFF is committed to the safety of all attendees and volunteers amidst the COVID-19 response, the event will be held utilizing social distancing practices and occupancy limits outlined in Governor Greg Abbott’s “Open Texas” plan.

“We’re so excited to be able to hold the Cat Show this Fall and to give our community a fun event to look forward to,” said Michelle Piatt, club Treasurer. “That said, we as an organization want to do everything we can to ensure that our patrons and volunteers remain safe and healthy during and following the event, so we’ll be making several adjustments to allow for stronger social distancing and cleanliness during the show. All attendees will be screened at the door including a questionnaire and temperature check. In addition, all attendees will be required to utilize face coverings throughout the event."

Piatt indicated that tickets will be sold for two-hour time blocks to allow for intermittent cleaning during the two-day event. Piatt said this effort will also limit the amount of spectators in the facility during each time block. “Tickets for the event will be $10 for adults, $7 for kids 6+ and seniors 60+, and free for kids 5 & under. Those with tickets will have access to the event for one of several two-hour time windows, all to be detailed on our website,” Piatt said. “This will give spectators time to check out our indoor vendors, our competing felines and our rescue organizations.

“We are also working to have additional vendors located outside of the Jimmy Burke Activity Center. There will be no charge to visit these vendors, and our hope is that all attendees will stop by to check out the fun, cat-themed items they will have available.”

Piatt said the GCFF will be partnering with the City of Deer Park Parks and Recreation Department to conduct facility cleaning between the two-hour time windows to further ensure cleanliness of the facility. “We are asking our exhibitors to take special precautions this year as the COVID-19 response continues, and we are asking the same of our spectators,” Piatt said. “All attendees will be required to wear masks and encouraged to wear gloves to the event. If you do not have a face covering, we’ll have cat-themed face coverings available for purchase at the event. Hand sanitizing stations will be available throughout the building.”
