"Clear the Shelter" - Saturday, August 18 at Deer Park Animal Shelter

Clear the Shelter - August 18

On Saturday, August 18, the Deer Park Animal Shelter will take part in the Houston-wide “Clear the Shelter” campaign, sponsored by Telemundo.

From 8AM to 5PM, residents of Deer Park and the surrounding community are encouraged to come to the shelter to find a new cat or dog and – as a special benefit – pay no adoption fee for their new family member. Adopters will still have to pre-pay for spay/neuter and rabies vaccine with the Veterinarian of their choice.

“We are so excited to once again take part in the ‘Clear the Shelter’ campaign,” said Jeanna Hooker, Animal Control Supervisor. “During last year’s campaign, we saw an incredible 18 animals adopted out, and we’re hoping to connect even more animals with new homes this year.”

As the event approaches, residents are encouraged to follow the shelter on Facebook at or the City’s Instagram - @deerparktxgov – to keep track of cats, kittens, dogs and puppies available at the shelter.

“Through our social media channels, we provide our residents with the estimated age, breed and personality of the animals we have available for adoption,” Hooker said. “The ‘Clear the Shelter’ campaign is a great opportunity to adopt, but if you see an animal that would be a good fit for your family, please contact us to learn more anytime.”
