The Parks & Recreation Department operates 4 recreational centers, 14 parks, 24 ball fields, an outdoor olympic-sized swimming pool with diving well, 6 lighted tennis courts, 2 outdoor racquetball courts, a sand volleyball court, a gym with 2 indoor racquetball courts, a full service weight room and a full size basketball court.
We believe recreation enriches the life of all citizens, physically and intellectually. Please take a look at the recreational opportunities offered by the Parks and Recreation department.
Administrative offices for Parks & Recreation are located in the Deer Park Community Center, located at 610 E. San Augustine. Office hours Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm, excluding holidays. A mail slot in the door allows for drop off registration until 9pm Monday through Friday and on Saturday from 10am to 3pm. You may also make a payment and drop it off in the drop off box in the circle drive any time after hours. Happy New Year!
The Parks and Recreation Department would like to wish you a happy new year and we hope that you had a great holiday. In 2010 we have many opportunities for the community to get out and participate in many different types of activities.
Starting on Tuesday, January 12 we have a new early morning fitness class that starts at 6am and meets twice a week called Wake Up Weight Zone! This is a weight training class that is designed to tone and define your body muscle and to help you shed a few pounds. You will get a 5 week session for just $25. It is taught by a certified instructor from the American Council on Exercise.
On January 18, the kids are out of school and we are having Movies and Munchies here at the Community Center located at 610 East San Augustine. At 2pm we are going to put a movie on the big screen and have plenty of snacks and drinks for the kids. It is for ages 6-11 and is $3 a watcher.
Coming up in February there is the IHoops basketball skills competition. It will be February 13 at the Earl Dunn Gym. For more information contact the Parks and Recreation Athletics deparment.
If you are looking for a good show to see in February the Deer Park Art Park Players will be performing "Smokey Joe's Cafe" beginning February 19-March 6.
