The Parks & Recreation Department operates 4 recreational centers, 14 parks, 24 ball fields, an outdoor olympic-sized swimming pool with diving well, 6 lighted tennis courts, 2 outdoor racquetball courts, a sand volleyball court, a gym with 2 indoor racquetball courts, a full service weight room and a full size basketball court.
We believe recreation enriches the life of all citizens, physically and intellectually. Please take a look at the recreational opportunities offered by the Parks and Recreation department.
Administrative offices for Parks & Recreation are located in the Deer Park Community Center, located at 610 E. San Augustine. Office hours Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm, excluding holidays. A mail slot in the door allows for drop off registration until 9pm Monday through Friday and on Saturday from 10am to 3pm. You may also make a payment and drop it off in the drop off box in the circle drive any time after hours. This Week in Parks and Recreation!
We are over half way through the summer and it seems like it just started yesterday. So far we have enjoyed numerous events that included a successuful run of "Oklahoma!" by the Art Park Players, dance camps, the Independence 5k fun run and kids 1 mile, several sessions of camp crabgrass, wild child destination trips, mini gourmet and much much more.
This week is busy with Wild Child Destinations Trips to Galveston for a Segway Tour and to the Kemah Boardwalk, Camp Crabgrass back in session, game room tournaments are going on daily, softball is out at the adult softball complex and of course Concerts in the Park. This week we are welcoming "Highway 59" to the Dow Park Pavilion. This band is an audience request band so come prepared to give them your favorite song to perform and be sure to bring your lawn chairs and pick out your spot and we will see you there.
Coming up we have Fun Sports for Summer for ages 3-6. This is where the little ones get a learn about many different sports and they are taught basic motor skills through these sports. Pre-school day camp and Toddler day camp are starting back up this week and so is the Pre-school arts and crafts. Some of the sessions are still open so don't wait and get into one of the best pre-school programs around. Mad Science of Houston is here this week on Wednesday as well. They will be teaching young and enthusiastice children about the the world of science through different exciting projects.
For all of the artist out there we have our summer "Paint Me!" class that is going on every Friday from 1-3pm. In this class you will have the opportunity to create your own ceramic masterpeice. Peices are $6 and you can pay in advance online by clicking right here! There is limit of 50 painters and this class is open to all ages so don't wait, let's paint! New Payment and Registration Features- Pay Online!
Beginning May 10, online registration and payments will be available. An account must be set-up, either online or in-person. This new feature will allow the user to sign up for an available program and make their monthly payments through the internet, thus saving a trip to the Parks and Recreation office.
The reservation process may be started online as well. You can check building availability and tentatively book your reservation, following up in the Parks and Recreation office within 48 hours. Those renting the Community Center and Pavilion will need to show proof of residency.
