On 07/23/2010 at approximately 8:47 am, a pedestrian who was attempting to cross the roadway in the 2800 block of Center Street, Deer Park, near SAS Automotive, was struck and injured by a passing vehicle. The vehicle, which is described as a white four-door passenger car fled the area making no attempt to render aid to the pedestrian. Police are currently interviewing witnesses to the accident and reviewing/enhancing surveillance footage of the accident obtained from businesses in the area. At this point in the investigation, it is unknown if the driver of the vehicle is aware they struck the pedestrian. DEER PARK OFFICER RECEIVES AWARD
The Asian Chamber of Commerce recently selected Deer Park Police Officer Kai Chiang as a 2010 Outstanding Asian Officer of the Year award recipient.
Sergeant Joe Cooper had the following words to say about Officer Chiang,
"Officer Kai Chiang has been employed with the Deer Park Police Department since 2007. Officer Chiang is a motivated and very dedicated officer who possesses social networking skills which have proven to greatly strengthen the relationship between Police and Citizen. Officer Chiang tirelessly dedicates her efforts to supporting the mission of this agency and to improving cooperation between law enforcement and our citizens. On a daily basis Officer Chiang makes numerous citizen contacts and proactively builds positive rapport with business owners, property owners, and other citizens. Positive examples of Officer Chiang's proactive efforts to further the Community Oriented Policing goals of this department have been used as a benchmark for her peers to help direct their efforts toward success. During her tenure she has received multiple commendations and letters of appreciation for the performance of her duties. Officer Chiang has received separate commendations from officials of the Deer Park Fire Department and La Porte Fire Department for her professional demeanor and her exceptional treatment of citizens and other public safety professionals. Officer Chiang consistently and reliably performs her duties with a positive attitude and has served on various committees and boards. Officer Chiang is currently assigned to the evening shift of our patrol division and also serves as a member of the Deer Park Police Department Honor Guard."
