Congress began recognizing the second week of April as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week in 1991. During the week of April 12-18, 2015, the Deer Park Police Department and Greater Harris County 9-1-1 recognize the tireless efforts of emergency services dispatchers to keep responders and citizens safe.

The Telecommunicator (dispatcher) is generally the first contact the public has with the police department. Their main function is being responsible for receiving, entering and dispatching calls for service for the Police, Fire and EMS units. The operation is a 24-hour 9-1-1 Communication Center.
