AUDITIONS

The City of Deer Park Parks and Recreation Department and The Art Park Players is now accepting audition appointments for their production of THE MUSIC MAN, Saturday, MARCH 4th. Youth auditions (ages 8-16) will be from 1-4:15pm and adults (17 & up) from 6-10pm. Auditions will be held in five-minute increments within a 50-minute time slots. You will be required to dance at the end of your time slot, so please bring appropriate dance attire. Please arrive early to complete your audition form. Callbacks will be held on Sunday, MARCH 5th beginning at 6pm. If invited to callbacks, you will be asked to sing, and read sides from the show. Auditions, Callbacks, Rehearsals and Performances will be held at the Theatre/Court Building at 1302 Center Street, Deer Park, TX 77536.

THE MUSIC MAN book, music and lyrics by Meredith Willson, based on a story by Meredith Willson and Franklin Lacey, will be directed by David Eck, musical direction Brandon Tanner, choreography by Elsa Moen Lammey, and technical direction by Joe Piper.

Performances Dates:

THE MUSIC MAN - JULY 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16, 21, 22

Friday and Saturday Performances are at 8pm and Sunday Performances are at 2pm.

Rehearsals will begin on or around MAY 15th and are traditionally Mondays through Fridays 7-10pm, and Saturdays 11am-2pm. Subject to change. There will be no Sunday rehearsals.

To be considered for all roles, you must be able to commit to all rehearsals during the tech weeks JUNE 26th through opening night on JULY 7th.

Please prepare 32 bars (not to exceed 90 seconds) of a musical theatre song in the style of the show. There will be NO accompanist. You must bring a CD with accompaniment, or have a digital file (flash drive/or mobile) provided it is edited and cued correctly. A résumé and 8”×10” headshot is requested, but not required.

Bring a list of all potential conflicts including travel, etc. Any conflicts with the posted schedule must be discussed with the creative team and agreed to by the Director before casting can be confirmed.

Video submissions will also be accepted for those who are not able to attend auditions on the 4th. All submissions must be received no later than FRIDAY, MARCH 3rd at midnight. Submissions must be submitted via link from a shared drive, YouTube, or Vimeo to deck@deerparktx.com. Do not send video files in the body of an email.

CHARLIE COWELL 

A traveling salesman who is on to Harold Hill's schemes. Tirelessly attempts to prove to everyone the true con man behind Harold Hill.

Age: 25 to 45

HAROLD HILL

Our story's unsuspecting protagonist. A con man, traveling under the auspices of a salesman, he eventually falls in love with Marian Paroo. Charismatic and charming.

MAYOR SHINN

A blustery politician who is all too "self-important." Begrudgingly married to Eulalie, he is skeptical of the town rumor mill.

A member of the quartet formed by Harold Hill with a tenor voice. Ewart is married to Maude Dunlop.

A baritone in the quartet formed by Hill. Oliver is married to Alma Hix.

The highest tenor in the quartet. Married to Mrs. Squires.

A citizen of River City and the bass of the quartet formed by Harold Hill.

Harold's chummy old friend and former con man, he now lives in River City and is trying to settle down.

An attractive, young man from the wrong side of town. He is secretly courting Zaneeta.

MARIAN PAROO

The stuff town librarian and music teacher. She is an attractive young lady who eventually falls for Harold Hill. Stuck up. Curious.

Cheerful and always plotting. An Irish widow and mother to Marian and Winthrop.

A slightly bratty piano student of Marion Paroo.

Marian's baby brother, he is very shy because of a noticeable lisp. Embraces Harold Hill and the marching band.

EULALIE MACKECKNIE SHINN

Mayor Shinn's peacock wife. A serial gossiper and snob, she has trouble keeping her opinions to herself.

ZANEETA SHINN

The Mayor's fresh-faced daughter who is in love with Tommy. Sweet and outgoing. Appears to be daffy at times.
