Traffic Division

Responsibilities

The Traffic Enforcement Unit is comprised of two patrolmen and one sergeant. The function of the Traffic Enforcement Unit is to reduce the number of traffic-related calls for service as well as to reduce the number of motor vehicle accidents within the city. The key to the success of the traffic unit is problem identification. Many of these problems are brought to the attention of the traffic sergeant from citizens of the community. Others are identified through the monthly analysis of data provided by the Crime Analyst. Some of the solutions include utilizing the expertise of other city departments such as Public Works and Traffic.

Public Awareness

In addition to traffic enforcement, the unit frequently coordinates its efforts to increase public awareness and safety with outside organizations. Some of the organizations include the Bay Area Council on Drugs, Mothers Against Drunk Drivers, Houston Galveston Area Council, Texas Department of Transportation, Deer Park ISD, and Safe Kids Houston.
