Deer Park's Dow Active Complex (DAC) Set To Open Mid-Summer 2025 - Where Community Comes to Life!

The City of Deer Park is thrilled to announce the highly anticipated opening of the Active Complex (DAC), formerly known as the Deer Park Community Center, scheduled for mid-summer 2025. This state-of-the-art facility will redefine recreational opportunities for residents of all ages. The DAC, boasting 66,393 square feet across two stories, will serve as a hub for fitness, recreation, and community engagement.

"We are excited to bring the Dow Active Complex to life with a fresh new look and feel," said Mayor Jerry Mouton, Jr. "This renovation will provide our residents with a state-of-the-art facility that they can enjoy for years to come."

COMMUNITY INVESTMENT:

The DAC renovation is a direct result of the City's commitment to improving its infrastructure and quality of life. In the 2021 bond election, Deer Park residents overwhelmingly voted in favor of a bond package that allocated funds for various projects throughout the city, including the DAC reconstruction. This community-driven initiative demonstrates the residents' dedication to enhancing their local amenities and creating a thriving community.

“It is fun arriving at City Hall each day and seeing the progress being made on the DAC next door! This is going to be an incredible asset for Deer Park.” City Manager James Stokes states, “like everyone else, I can’t wait for it to open.”

“The memories, programs, and use of our Community Center over the past several decades are a core part of what has shaped our Deer Park community,” stated Assistant City Manager Sara Costlow. ”We are so pleased, and even more so proud, that the DAC will continue serving Deer Park for MANY more decades to come!”

Key amenities include the Earl Dunn Gymnasium, a versatile space featuring six pickleball courts, two full-sized basketball courts that can be divided into four smaller courts, and four volleyball courts. For fitness and wellness, the complex will offer a 4,500 square foot fitness floor with cutting-edge equipment, an indoor fitness pool for aquatic exercise and therapy, two group exercise/dance rooms, and a 1/10th mile indoor walking track.

Community spaces will be abundant, featuring three multi-purpose programming rooms, two of which can be combined for larger events, a flexible meeting/small event space that can be divided into three rooms, a connected catering kitchen, a multi-function lounge space for socializing and relaxation, and a child watch room for parents utilizing the facility. Outdoor amenities will include an outdoor pool bathhouse. The facility will also house the Parks and Recreation administrative offices.

"The Active Complex represents a significant investment in the health and well-being of our community," said Director of Parks and Recreation, Kenny Walsh. "This facility will provide diverse recreational opportunities, foster social connections, and enhance the quality of life for Deer Park residents."

The DAC will offer a wide range of programs and activities, including fitness classes, sports leagues, youth programs, and community events. The facility's flexible spaces will also be available for private rentals.

The City of Deer Park invites residents to stay tuned for further updates on the DAC's progress and upcoming grand opening event.
