San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site  

An absolute must-see, the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site tells the dramatic story of the fight for independence from Mexico in larger-than-life fashion. Take one glance at the 567-foot-tall San Jacinto Monument and you’ll know you’re someplace truly special. The monument and the San Jacinto Museum sit on the grounds of the San Jacinto Battleground, a 1,200-acre park where General Sam Houston’s outnumbered army defeated the forces of Mexican General Antonio López de Santa Anna.  

Step into San Jacinto Museum and you’ll find exhibits that span 500 years of history, including Sam Houston’s inscribed ring, Santa Anna’s glove, and even a knife used by Davy Crockett at the Alamo. Oh, and if you were marveling at how tall the San Jacinto Monument was and wondered what it would be like at the very top, you can find out!
